Walmart Choice Steak Challenge Presented by Kingsford® Charcoal and Coca-Cola

Pits Chef Eric Lackey (Flamestone American Grill) Against Chef Chad Johnson (Bern’s Steak House)

WHAT:                       

Chefs Eric Lackey from Flamestone American Grill and Chad Johnson from Bern’s Steak House and SideBern’s will compete in the Walmart Choice Steak Challenge presented by Kingsford® charcoal and Coca-Cola to determine who has the best steak-grilling chops in town. Tampa is one of eight markets selected for this steak showdown. All events will take place at Walmart parking lots and be judged by shoppers, who will get to try the steak and wash it down with a refreshing Coca-Cola Zero for free. Eight chef finalists will be selected to compete in New York City, May 22, for best seared steak honors in a contest judged by champion pitmaster Chris Lilly and other food luminaries.

 

WHY:                          

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and with delicious, juicy and tender Choice Premium Beef available at Walmart, steak is a great option for those looking to mark the holiday with family and friends in their backyard. Only one in five steaks is good enough to call Walmart Choice Premium Beef, which has been certified by the USDA for quality. Shoppers who aren’t completely satisfied with their steaks can bring back their receipts for a complete refund.

 

About the Chefs:      

Chef Eric Lackey is the Corporate Chef at FlameStone American Grill and Besa Grill. He was voted one of Tampa Bay’s Top 5 Chefs in the Tampa Bay Iron Chef Competition and is a member of the American Culinary Federation.

Chef Chad Johnson is originally from Louisville, Ky. and started at SideBern’s about eight years ago as a cook and worked his way up through the ranks. He became executive chef four years ago.
