…TO INSPIRE AUDIENCES

Fort Myers, FL Colours School of the Arts of Southwest Florida in cooperation with New Beginnings Ministries will present part two of  MAAFA Suite  production on September 24, 2010 at East Lee County High School. The production commemorates the history and hope of the African American experience. MAAFA is a Swahili word meaning unimaginable horror. The theme for the show is “Still I Rise” which reflects the challenging social and economic times we live through even today.

The production includes a diverse cast of up to 70 performers of oratory, modern and interpretive dance, and liturgical dance as well as a very talented gospel ensemble. The cast of all ages have been preparing for months to reenact important moments in African American history including the journey through the middle passage that so many endured.

“The stories told in the MAAFA Suite are so powerful and life changing,” says Christine Peete, Administrative Director for the arts school. “This year the production will be split into two shows, one in February and one in September. Every year our audiences laugh with us, cry with us, and dance in the aisles.”

Colours is currently seeking sponsors for the show. Anyone interested in purchasing advance tickets or learning more about sponsorships should contact Sharon Hill, Executive Director, at 239 -839-1773. Tickets for adults are $20 and tickets for children ages 3-12 are $10. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets at $15 per person. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the non-profit school and help underserved students to learn alternate forms of expression.
